Moving Tips
A move goes smoothly when the small things are handled early. Here is the timeline our clients rely on.
Six weeks out
Book your movers, especially for a summer close when Northern New Brunswick moving companies fill fast. Start using up freezer and pantry stock, and begin sorting anything you do not intend to carry to the new address.
Two weeks out
Confirm the closing date with your lawyer, arrange the transfer of NB Power, internet and insurance, and forward your mail. Label every box by room, not by contents — it saves hours on the other end.
Moving week
Keep passports, deeds, medication, chargers and valuables with you rather than on the truck. Pack a first-night box: bedding, towels, coffee, tools, toilet paper and a change of clothes for everyone.
After you arrive
Change the locks, test smoke and CO detectors, locate the water shut-off and electrical panel, and update your address with the province, your bank and Service Canada.
